"I am Death, and I make all equal." Death is chosen to be the Godfather of a man's thirteenth son after the rejection of God and the Devil.
"Now shalt thou receive thy godfather's present. I make thee a celebrated physician." The doctor gives his patients a herb to keep them alive if Death stands by their heads and doesn't do anything for them if Death stands by their feet.
"If I could but cheat Death for once,” thought the physician, “he is sure to take it ill if I do, but, as I am his godson, he will shut one eye; I will risk it." The godson decides to deceive Death and lets the king live, however he is left with a warning, next time means death.
