  • During the mid 1500s in Europe, people loyalties to religion changed and they began seeking scientific answers to life. The scientific revolution then led to the development of some prestigious "enlightened thinkers" who were using reason to explain the world around them.
  • Battles of Lexington and Concord
  • Bill of Rights limits power of federal government. making Executive, Judicial, and Legislative branchches surface. Bill of Rights refers to the first ten amendments of US constitution.
  • Thomas Paine's "Common Sense"
  • 13 colonies were under control of Great Britain, without taxation of representation there was a push for independence as colonists were inspired by the Enlightenment

  • Fought on April 19 1775, they were the first military engagements of the American Revolutionary war. Battles were between 13 American colonies and British authorties
  • A pamphlet used to challenge the authority of British government and royal monarchy. Spoke plainly to the common people and inspired them to seek independence from Great Britain
  • On July 4 1776, Declaration of Independence was written by Thomas Jefferson, among others. Dec of Inde established the reasons the British colonies of North America sought independence. Adopted bu Second Continental Congress.
