  • This is Holden a sixteen-year boy. He has kicked out of Elkton, Whooton, and Pencey.  Holden fears of growing up and hates phonies 
  • Holden lost his younger brother Allie to leukemia. Allie represented innocence for Holden, but since Allie is gone this illustrates the theme, loss of  innocence. 
  • I'm leaving this place is full of phonies
  • Holden often questions where the ducks go during the winter. Holden doesn't like the ducks flying south and wonders where they go. To holden the ducks represent himself and others. when the ducks fly south represents change and Holden does not like change because he wants everything to be the same. 
  • Where are the ducks going? what are they going to do?
