  • The amendment was issued in 1865. So all slave owners needed to free their slaves. Now they have no one to harvest their crops.
  • The people living in the North really didn't care because all the of the freed slaves were already free there.
  • Most former slaves were coming to the North and starting a new life here .
  • The 13th amendment affected everyone in the South and all African Americans. They no longer have to be treated like animals. They are no longer someones property. Now they can be free and live a free life.
