  • The Assassination of Archduke Francz Ferdinand
  • Germany invade Belgium
  • Trench warfare
  • Archduke Franz Ferdinand, an official from Austria-Hungary throne, is assassinated in Serbia by a Serbian named Gavrilo Princip, which was a part of a group called the Black Hand.
  • The sinking of the Lusitana
  • Germany invades Belgium in order to Attack and take France down by surprise. Belgium put up a fight, which delayed Germany. France was aware of the invasion, so the surprise element was eliminated.
  • The Zimmerman note
  • Trench warfare was a tactic that Germany, France and Great Britain. This allowed countries to mobilize their military. Trench warfare caused a stalemate for many years.
  • The Treaty of Versailles
  • The Lusitania, a luxury British passenger ship, is sunk by a German submarine. 1,195 civilians were killed. This was not enough for America to join the war.
  • The Zimmerman note was a telegraph that was sent to Mexico by Germany, but America intercepted it. This telegraph states that Mexico allied themselves with Germany, declares war on America. In return Germany would help them gain their territory that they lost to America.
  • The treaty of Versailles was a document that stated the terms and consequences of the war. German is the main country that was put to blame.
