  • "Who Want To Be First Tonight For Feelings?"(Page 15) In this scene, the main character and his family are discussing their own days and the feelings and emotions they went through. This scene is important as we learn about lots of things of the community like the family units and release.
  • Memories From The Past
  • "The Apple Had Changed. Just For An Instant"(Page 39)  In scene, Jonus is playing with his good friend Asher in a game of catch with an apple when he knows something strange about the apple. This scene is important because this is when Jonus first see colour which tells us that in the community everyone is colourblind.
  • Release
  • Bye Bye!
  • "Jonus Has Not Been Assigned, He Has Been Selected"(Page 81) In this scene, the ceremony of the twelves has begun and Jonus and his class members are being picked for their jobs but Jonus is picked for a very important job, The Receiver. This scene is important because it is the first scene of the rising action.
  • The Beginning Of The End

  • "Please He Begged, Take Some Of The Pain" (Page 152) In this scene a horribly memory of war is transferred to Jonus, this is when he starts having doubts about the community and stops taking his pills to feel emotions. This scene is important to Jonus's character development.
  • "No One Heard That Baby Cry Either! No One But My Father!" (Page 191) In this scene, Jonus learns about the true way of release and how cruel it is when his father releases a baby and dumps it in the trash. This is when Jonus decides he must do something to stop the flawed ways of the community. Later on in the story, Jonus learns that the child he was fostering will face the same fate and runs away from the community with Gabe.
  • "We're Almost There Gabriel" (Page 222) In this scene, Jonus and Gabe have left the community and are now fugitives, they are about to freeze to death and Jonus sees lights that he remembers from a memory the receiver once gave him. In this scene we don't know if they died and Jonus was seeing happy things while he was perishing or that they reached human settlement just before he passed out.
