Long ago, there was a village living in peace and harmony. High upon the cliff side, over looking the village, was Te Tahi O Te Rangi.
The people of the village were terrified of Te Tahi O Te Rangi, never daring to disturb him, for they feared he would slaughter them.
After years and years of living fear, the villagers finally decided to over come the Tohunga and kill him.
The villagers pretended that they needed help for a "very important task", so they asked Te Tahi O Te Rangi, if he could assist them. They sailed to Whakaari and began adventuring amongst the Island.
After many hours, the villagers and the Tohunga decided to rest. Several hours later,Te Tahi O Te Rangi, woke from his sleep, to see the beach empty. He stood, confused, only to see the villagers paddling rapidly, back towards the mainland.
Te Tahi O Te Rangi, stood at the edge of the water, and began to chant a karakia, that summoned The King of The Whales. He swiftly climbed onto the back of the whale, as it cautiously swam, towards the villagers. The villagers soon gave up, and waited to be slaughtered, by the Tohunga. But he simply walked away, and let their shame, be their punishment.
