Storyboard Text

  • Symbol: Lennie's dead mice
  • Character: Lennie
  • Theme: Power
  • The mouse symbolizes Lennie's careless disregard for other being's feelings. He doesn't understand his own strength and that is demonstrated by his relationship with mice. He loves to pet them, but they don't like to be held captive so they bite him. In turn, he pinches their heads, killing them by accident. He continues to hold onto them, not grasping the fact that they are dead and will soon decompose. His intentions are never what they seem.
  • Symbol: Curley's boots
  • Lennie is a mystery. He has good intentions, but he gets into trouble often. Without George's help, he wouldn't make it on his own. He forgets things immediately and cannot understand other people's feelings, but he has a heart of gold. A 5 year old's brain in a grown man's body.
  • Character: Slim
  • In the relationship between George and Lennie, the power belongs to George. Lennie may be physically stronger but George has the power like a rider with his horse.
  • Theme: Power
  • Curley has tiny man syndrome. He despises his height and therefore wears boots with heels to make himself taller. It is also a symbol of power and ranking because the only other man on the ranch who wore boots was his father, the boss.
  • Slim is a character who is good through and through. From the start everyone likes him and he always knows what to do. Wherever he goes, he brings the light and eliminates darkness.
  • Curley has a false sense of power. He often goes looking for fights with bigger guys because if he wins he looks very tough. If he loses then everyone will say it was an unfair fight because of size. He wins either way and nobody says anything because he is the boss's son.
