  • Kansas-Nebraska Act in Senate
  • AYE!!
  • AYE!!
  • Kansas-Nebraska
  • All in favour
  • North shall not support
  • Race for possession
  • Pick up the pace! We need to collect more settlers and get to the new territories before the southern states.
  • Sack of Lawrence
  • Take everything that they have. Arrest everyone and make sure nobody resists.
  • Thats everything
  • 90% of the southern states voted for the Kansas-Nebraska bill. Whereas the northern states were completely against.
  • Pottawatomie massacre
  • SHOW ME YOUR HANDS!!
  • Why are you killing us?
  • Since the new states were governed by popular sovereignty, both settlers from northern and southern states rushed to be the first ones in the territory, and fill the majority. The majority would decide if the state was going to be a slave state or a free state.
  • Charles Sumner's speech
  • Slavery is bad and those who support it are !$#@!*@
  • 800 armed men are sent to Lawrence to arrest all the citizens since they were against slavery. Along with arresting the citizens, the armed men ransacked the town. They also destroyed the town's newspaper printing press and the anti-slavery HQ.
  • Brooks attack on Sumner
  • You show him Brooks.
  • Hey stop this you two.
  • John Brown, an abolitionist, captured 5 men from pro-slavery settlements, severed their hands and stabbed them to death. To Brown, the massacre was revenge since he was under the impression that 5 of his men were killed during the Sack of Lawrence.
  • Charles Sumner gave a speech in the Senate verbally attacking his colleagues like Andrew Butler, a senior senator from South Carolina, for supporting slavery.
  • Preston Brooks was the nephew of Andrew Butler. Since Sumner insulted his uncle in the speech, Brooks went up to Sumner and almost beat him to death with a cane. Some people praised Brook's actions because they hated Sumner's speech.
