  • Welcome to Exponential Expressions and today we are learning about exponents
  • Exponential Education
  • Exponents are used in everyday life and can be very useful
  • Exponents are a shorter way to show how many times a number, called them base, multiplied by itself.
  • For example, if you had a cube with dimensions of 3cm*3cm*3cm you could use the exponent 33 to find the volume. 33 is 27 cm3 and 3*3*3 is 27 cm3, so the volume is 27 cm3.
  • The units have a small 3 or 2 next to them
  • If you have a cube you can use an exponent to find the volume
  • Exponents are used in volume
  • Exponents are also used in many formulas such as the equation for the area for circles. Also the famous equation E=mc2 Einstien made also has an exponent
  • Have you wondered why computers have numbers like 8,16,64,32,256? Its because they're all solutions of an exponent. They're all 2 raised to a power. This is because computers function in binary.
  • Now that you learned why they're useful let's learn how to solve, write, and when/how to use exponents
  • First let’s talk about the parts of an exponent. The number being used as a factor is called the base. The amount of times that the base is multiplied is called the power.
