Storyboard Text

  • Laius, king of Thebes, and his newborn son
  • Little did Laius know that the gods were watching over his son and delivered him to a farmer to be raised. The child was named Oedipus.
  • I'm sorry, my son, but I'm going to stop the Oracle's prophecy by leaving you here to die.
  • Thebes 26 miles
  •
  • Years later, the Oracle's prophecy came true. Laius died, killed by his own son, Oedipus. Little did Oedipus know that he was going to be king of his father's kingdom.
  • Oedipus had a trial set before him. The trial came in the form of the Sphinx, a creature known for killing its victims if they don't answer its riddle.
  • You must answer my riddle. What walks upon four legs in the morning, two legs in mid-morning, and three legs in the afternoon?
  • My answer is a man going through the stages of his life.
  • The Sphinx, angered by Oedipus answering her riddle correctly, threw herself into the waters below, killing herself.
  • NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
  • WHAT!
  • My King and Queen, I bring news of a man who has killed his father and married his mother without knowing it.
  • Years later, when Oedipus is king of Thebes, the prophet Tiresias visits him and his queen, Jocasta, bearing an omen.
  • The Lord of Prophecy, Apollo, has revealed his identity to me. That man is YOU!
  • WHAT!
  • As a result, Jocasta, who turned out to be Oedipus' mother, hung herself, and Oedipus blinded himself as punishment.
