Maricris Kristensen was a philipeno immigrant who moved to America in 2014. Maricris thought that America was going to offer freedom and opportunities but that idea faded away after time passed: ""Before i moved to America, I thought that it would be free and give out many opportunuties to me"
We, Paul and Ashley, interviewed Maricris Kristensen about her thoughts on the American Dream as well as her thoughts on America before and after moving there.
America is going to be a free, happy place!
We asked Maricris "What comes to your mind when you think of the American Dream?" and she replied with "the thing that comes to my mind is all the welcoming people" and "another thing is having a better life in general.".
Basicaly, Maricris thought that American Dream welcomed a lot of people who were new to the country and that the American Dream was a sense of hope given to people who were new to the country in which if they work hard enough, they can become extremely successful and make a living.
Welcome to America!!!
She thought America was difficult to live in because she had to speak a different language and that a job would be extremely hard to apply for as well.
Next we asked her, "What were some difficulties of living in America? She answered with, "Difficulties were definitely learning English, getting a job, and earning money. America is just so hard to live in!"
America is just so hard to live in!
We asked Maricris "Ever since you moved to America, how has your view changed on the American Dream?" and she replied with "Everything in America is so expensive", "you work well, you earn well", "Starting to think the American Dream is a bunch of baloney", and "After living in America for a while, I became independent, able to work, and live a normal life."
Summary of question: Maricris kristensen thought that living in America would be easier than expected. However, she also thought that it was still very hard to live in and that the American Dream was either extremely hard to achieve or impossible.
