  • (TEACHER) Good Morning class! Today we are going to learn about what happened after WW2, more specifically, The cold war.
  • (STALIN) We both have nuclear weapons that could destruct our nations
  • (STALIN) I agree, that sounds like a good idea
  • (ROOSEVELT) Yes, we should do a pact that allows us to retaliate when a nuclear weapon detonates on our land.
  • (TEACHER) First, in 1945, president Stalin and Roosevelt agreed to the Arms race
  • (TEACHER) Afterwards in 1946, Churchill made a speech stating that there was an iron curtain placed separating the "Soviet sphere" (Churchill, 1946)
  • (CHURCHILL) "From Stettin in the Baltic to Trieste in the Adriatic an iron curtain has descended across the Continent" (Churchill, 1946)
  • (TEACHER) Then, in 1947 Truman delivered a speech saying that Greece and neighboring areas were in desperate need of aid due to the communist radicals. The United States wanted to help them to get allies.
  • (TRUMAN) "Greece is in desperate need of financial and economic assistance to enable it to resume purchases of food, clothing, fuel, and seeds"(Truman, 1947)
  • (TEACHER) Finally, in 1946, Khrushchev delivered a speech claiming that the United States wanted world domination
  • (NIKITA) "Today the "anti-communism" slogan is being used as a smoke screen to cover up the claims of one power for world domination" (Khrushchev 1956)
  • Those were some events that affected the tension between the USSR and the U.S.
  • I hope you enjoyed today's lesson!
