(TEACHER) Good Morning class! Today we are going to learn about what happened after WW2, more specifically, The cold war.
THE COLD WAR
(STALIN) We both have nuclear weapons that could destruct our nations
(STALIN) I agree, that sounds like a good idea
(ROOSEVELT) Yes, we should do a pact that allows us to retaliate when a nuclear weapon detonates on our land.
(TEACHER) First, in 1945, president Stalin and Roosevelt agreed to the Arms race
(TEACHER) Afterwards in 1946, Churchill made a speech stating that there was an iron curtain placed separating the "Soviet sphere" (Churchill, 1946)
(CHURCHILL) "From Stettin in the Baltic to Trieste in the Adriatic an iron curtain has descended across the Continent" (Churchill, 1946)
(TEACHER) Then, in 1947 Truman delivered a speech saying that Greece and neighboring areas were in desperate need of aid due to the communist radicals. The United States wanted to help them to get allies.
(TRUMAN) "Greece is in desperate need of financial and economic assistance to enable it to resume purchases of food, clothing, fuel, and seeds"(Truman, 1947)
(TEACHER) Finally, in 1946, Khrushchev delivered a speech claiming that the United States wanted world domination
(NIKITA) "Today the "anti-communism" slogan is being used as a smoke screen to cover up the claims of one power for world domination" (Khrushchev 1956)
Those were some events that affected the tension between the USSR and the U.S.
