The first law is the Law of Inertia. It states that an object that is at rest shall stay at rest unless an unbalanced force acts on it and that an object in motion shall stay in motion until an unbalanced force acts on it. In other words, unless an object is pushed or pulled by a force, it will stay at rest or motion. Objects with more inertia (mass) are harder to move for it is the property that resists change in motion.
This room seems to be a bit cramped. Maybe I should move the couch over.
Maybe because it has too much inertia.
Why is this couch not moving?
It's the property of an object that can resist change of motion. Usually, the objects with more mass have more inertia making them harder to move
Then how am I supposed to move this couch over?
Create an unbalanced force.
A net force is a sum of all the forces and has directions if I'm right.
To create an unbalanced force, the net force has to equal to the direction you want to move it towards.
