  • First Attempt to Stop War
  • This is where the Missouri Compromise was signed.
  • Jackson Strikes Back
  • That is vengeance between countries.
  • Let´s be frank here.If your state secedes,we will invade you,and you won´t like that.
  • Push to the Brink
  • The Scotts can't sue.
  • The Scott case took a long time.
  • Hi my name is Martha Sohani, and I'm a time traveling dog. Right here in this very room the Missouri Compromise is being signed. There was a debate over whether new territories would be slave or free was decided here It was supposed to fix the problems by forbidding slavery. Let's see if it did that....
  • Alexander Stephens saves the Nation
  • Now we're in 1832 where we are in the midst, of a event that would later be known as the nullification crisis. The north put tariffs on British goods and the British retaliated by putting taxes on Southern goods. South Carolina was particularity irked. So they threatened to nullify the bill and possibly succeed.
  • Our rights are who´s rights?
  • The Dred Scott case was a ten year odyssey. During this time the Compromise of 1850 added the Fugitive slave act,and the Kansas-Nebraska Act from 1854 which repealed the Missouri Compromise. In 1857, the Supreme Court ruled that slaves weren't citizens and that the Missouri Compromise was unconstitutional, ending the Dred Scott case.
  • The Last Straw
  • Who wants to secede from the Union?
  • Oh no the US has seperated!
  • Since the Dred Scott took 11 years, several other events threatened to tear the country apart. One such event was the compromise of 1850,and the rise of Alexander Stephens. With Georgia split on whether to accept the compromise,Alexander Stephens helped pass the Fugitive Slave Act and Georgia signed the Compromise.I hope this prevents war...
  • I don´t think we should accept this bill.
  • I hope this helps calm the country.
  • Now we are heading to 1860, where the final straw occurs. As we wait, let´s think think about what causes this. The main reason was slavery but another reason was states´ rights. The south feels that the national government has too much power and that their states´ should have more rights. The upcoming election should be very interesting.
  • The states should have more rights! The national government has too much power.
  • I wonder what this argument would cause?
  • The national government should have more power than the states!
  • Now we have reached 1860 and Abraham Lincoln has just been elected president, but he wasn't even on the ballot in most southern states. Despite him saying that he won't end slavery, the southern states began to secede. Georgia wasn't as clear cut and the Congress was split on whether to join their neighbors. Despite Alexander Stephens saying it is illegal to secede, the assembly voted to leave the union. After 40 years of sectionalism and tension, the south eventually broke off and war started.
