How Sign Language came to American part 2
This is about how Gallaudet traveled to Paris to talk to Sicard to help him learn Sign Language and how be brought Sign to America.
Cool! I want to learn!!
Gallaudet saw a flyer about learning sign in Paris. So he went to Paris. When he got to Paris Sicard (in the blue shirt) was talking how he taught 2 deaf students how to sign. His students are Jean Masseau (in the light brown shirt) and Laurent Clerc (In green shirt), both males. After Sicard had talk, Gallaudet decided he wanted to talk to Sicard to see if he could teach his sign. Sicard said yes!!
Gallaudet talked to Clerc and asked if he would go to America and teach Sign Language to others and Clerc agreed with him and said yes. On the way back to America Clerc and Gallaudet decided to switch languages. Clerc learned English and Gallaudet learned French SIgn Language.
When they got to American they made a school. The founders are Gallaudet, Clerc, and Cogswell. Clerc was the first Deaf teacher in america! Alice was one of the first students at this school. The school is in Hartford Connecticut in 1817.
