Echo and Narcissus The theme of this myth is you cant do bad things and not be punished for it. "He shall not go unpunished for this cruelty, said Aphrodite"(Green, 866).
Echo and Narcissus by Roger Green This myth is about a nymph named Echo she talks a lot to Hera. One day Hera figures out that she is distracting her so Zeus can go to earth. when she figures this out she curses Echo making it so she can only repeat what other people say. One day Echo goes up to this mountain and she a nymph named Narcissus she likes him but she cant talk to him. But he hears her and he tells her to come out so she can meet her and she repeats that but then when he meets her he hates he says really mean things. Echo hears all that he said and she repeats it. After that echo wanted to die so the goddess of love said that she could die. Aphrodite cursed Narcissus so that he would only love himself and he died because he could find himself.
Echo has a lot to do with the theme she was punished for doing something she was not supposed to do. Narcissus was another symbol for the theme he did a bad thing and he was also punished.
"But from this day on, You shall be only be able to repeat what other people say-and never speak until someone else speaks first"(Green, 864). I think this has a lot to do with the theme because she is getting punished for doing something that was not a good thing to do.
"I would die before I have you touch me"(Green, 865). I think this has to with the theme because that is a really mean thing to say and that leads to someone getting punished.
"He shall not go unpunished for this cruelty, said Aphrodite"(Green, 866). He got punished by the god of love for being mean and only loving himself I think that has a lot to with the theme.
