Early in October, Mr Jones and his men, Mr Pilkington and Mr Frederick marched through the gate at Animal Farm in the hope of the ''Recapture of the farm.''
Snowball was in charge of defence for this battle. He ''Launched his first attack.'' This was to send thirty five pigeons to drop dung on the mens' heads.
Next, Snowball told the ducks to ''Peck viciously at the calfs'' of the men. However, the men were too strong and easily fought off the ducks with sticks.
Conniving and tactical, Snowball lured the men into the yard to make them believe that the animals had given up and that they had won, but ''This was just what Snowball had intended.'' The pigs, cows and horses emerged from a bush and suddenly attacked the humans.
The battle was intense and all the animals were involved including a sheep who had been killed by a bullet meant to be shot at Snowball that '' Scored bloody streaks along [his] back.'' Boxer, in all of the horror had forgotten he was wearing ''Iron shoes'' and supposably killed a man. The rest of the humans were frightened by this and ran for their lives.
The animals had won and once again defeated Mr Jones and his men. The animals were in the ''Wildest excitement'' and could not believe their luck. Two medals were later created one called, ''Animal hero first class'' awarded to Boxer and Snowball and the second being ''Animal hero second class'' awarded to the dead sheep.
