  •       The Black Box was a sign of death, fear. People from this village participate in this event called the lottery. Everybody from the village gathers together in front of a man and a box. Hoping that their slip of paper didn't have a black dot on it. If it was, That meant certain death. Line 77-79 this quote shows, ''The night before the lottery, Mr. Summers and Mr.Graves made up the slips of paper and put them in a box...''       
  • The women weren't the most fashionable back then either. Most of them wore shabby dresses and sweaters. " The women, wearing faded house dresses and sweaters...'' This quote shows that the women wore didn't have fancy and nice dresses back then.
  • Line 20 '' Eventually made a great pile of stone...'' This quote shows that they had already made a big pile of stones to throw at the person who's slip of paper had a black dot on it. They were to stone the person to death. Once they did, they'd go on about their day like nothing happened.
