  • The USS Maine sunk and the Americans didn't know what happened to it.
  • USS Maine
  • The Cubans were rebelling because they wanted to control their own government and economy.
  • The United States demand the Spanish for many things involving Cuba.
  • 1. Compensation for the U.S.S. Maine 2. An end to reconcentration camps 3. a truce in Cuba 4. Cuban Independance
  • They blamed the sinking on the Spanish. The yellow journalism wrote bad things toward the Spanish after this.
  • The Spanish Signed the Treaty of Paris
  • McKinley wanted America to stay at peace because he didn't want to risk the army and the money.
  • Territory the US Gained
  • The Spanish reclucantly agreed to everything except for #4.
  • The Spanish signed the treaty of paris which gave the US land and it also gave Cuban Independance.
  • THE TREATY OF PARIS
  • For 20 million dollars, the US gained the Philippines, Puerto Rico, and Guam.
