"No one can see the kingdom of Heaven unless they are born again."
"How can you be born again? Is it not impossible to be born from your mother a second time?"
"You must be born of the Spirit, not by water."
Earthly and Heavenly Things
"How do you, as Israel's teacher, not understand these things?"
Nicodemus, a Pharisee who was a member of the Jewish Council, came to Jesus at night; confused. He knew that Jesus was from God, because if otherwise, He would not be able to accomplish the miracles He did. Jesus replies and says that no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.
Nicodemus is confused and wonders how someone can be again. Nicodemus wonders how can someone be born from their mother again. Jesus replies and says that you must be born of the Spirit, not water to be able to go to Heaven.
God Gave His Son
"God gave is Son so that YOU can have eternal life!"
Jesus is surprised that Nicodemus, as Israel's teacher, does not understand. He than realizes that Nicodemus does not understand all Earthly things, so how would he be able to understand Heavenly things at all?
Nicodemus is Quiet
Jesus tells Nicodemus that just as how Moses lifted up the snake that healed the wounded, the Son of Man also must be lifted up. The Son of Man will provide the perfect sacrifice which was needed for humans to be able to go to Heaven. When you believe in Jesus, you can have eternal life in Heaven.
Jesus tells Nicodemus that God sent is most beloved Son for him, so that he could have eternal life with God. Nicodemus would only be able to have this eternal life if he, Nicodemus, believes in God as his one and only Savior.
Nicodemus believes that Jesus came for him, but keeps this information to himself and does not tell others about God. As a Pharisee, Nicodemus stands out because he believes in Jesus as his Savior, unlike most others.
