The family moves Phoenix, AZ, after Gramma Smith died, to live on an old house inherited by Rose Mary.
OMG, it's so big!!!
Life become very hard in the dilapidated shack in Welch, especially when the children realize that there is no solution to Rex' alcoholism, and he steals all their savings. Then, they start planning a permanent change in life.
I am tired of this crazy way of life, Lori!!
Me too sister! We have to get out of here and find ourselves something better. Let's start saving money to go to New York.
One at a time, Lori, Jeanette, Brian, and Maureen come to NYC. Their parents also come to the city, but refuse their children's help and become homeless. After some years, Rex dies and Rose Mary continues to live in an abandoned apartment building in NYC.
Sis, it's amazing how we were able to overcome all hurdles, given our crazy childhood!!
Yes, Brian, but remember that we still have to "rescue" Maureen!!
Rex wows the kids with his dreams. He made elaborate designs for the Glass Castle.
When we find gold, we will build the most beautiful Glass Castle in the desert. The walls, roof and even the stairs will be made of glass! It will have solar cells on the top, and its own water purification system !!
Hoping that their Dad would finally construct their Glass Castle, Jeanette and Brian dug a deep hole in the backyard of their new home in Welch. The Castle's foundations soon become filled up with trash, gigantic rats, and snakes.
Oh, Brian! After all our work to build the foundations of our Glass Castle...
