Washington's deep rivers and the pacific ocean were filled with fish that fishermen came to fish for money and to sell to other countries. Robert Hume made cans to preserve fish.
Gold was discovered in Klondike. This brought workers to the pacific Northwest. Washington created reserves of coal and oil. Lots of workes needed access to these underground resources.
In Puget sound lowlands and cascade mountainminers found coal, Coal was used to heat homesand to power factory machines. People came fromplaces to mine coal. Factories even hired childrento come organize coal. Coal was important to Washington's economy into the 1900's.
In Walla Walla farmers grew hop and wheat.Native Americans and White men worked together. Washington apples were also important in 1900's.
