Storyboard Text

  • The development of the cell theory begins in the 1600's when Anton Van Leeuwenhoek invented an early form of the microscope
  • I saw tiny organisms in the water!
  • Then in 1665, Robert Hooke discovered cells by looking at a thin slice of cork. He got the name from the name for the chambers of monks also called "cells"
  • Everything has tiny chambers in them!
  • In 1838, Matthias Schleiden concluded that plants are made of cells
  • There are cells in this plant!
  • In 1839, Theodore Schwann concluded animals are made of cells too
  • I think I see a pattern here......
  • I think I saw cells in that piece of meat I put in the microscope
  • Finally, Rudolf Virchow concluded that cells come from other cells
  • Based on my research, cells don't just come from nowhere; they come from other cells!
  • Cell Theory
  • And that is how the cell theory was formed!
