  • WE BARELY SCRAPE BY HOW ARE WE TO PAY THIS TAX?!
  • The First Protests
  • No More Tax
  • NO MORE TAX!
  • NO CARBON TAX!
  • STOP MACRON
  • On November 17 Macron decided to increase the carbon tax. This meant that prices on fuel would increase greatly. The reason for this tax was to help protect the environmont.
  • Government's Reaction
  • We shouldn't give in to the protest!
  • When people found out about the increasing tax they were enraged. This was because middle class workers income was very low and the tax would mean fuel price would rise. People living in rural areas would't be able to afford fuel to get around either.
  • Protests Escalating
  • Protests quickly formed in the streets of France with over a quarter million people protesting. They called themselves the Gilet Jaunes (Yellow Vests) to represent the working class. Students, farmers, and ordinary people were all angry about the tax.
  • The Results
  • We will be scrapping the fuel tax and raising the minimum wage by 100 euros a month!
  • Since the protest were peacefully the government acted very slowly because they didn't see them as a threat. Macron decided to delay the tax for 3 months so the protest would stop.
  • Yes, instead we should DELAY the tax increase.
  • Macron delaying the tax only made the people angry which turned the protest violent. Street violence escalated with people damaging buildings and setting fires to cars. Police made over 1,700 arrests with over 100 injured people.
  • In the end Macron decided to scrap the tax and rase the minimum wage for the working class. However this didn't solve everything. Even with a year passing since the first protest french people still unhappy and some protests are still happening.
