  • Girls marriages were arranged by their parents and they had no say on who they married. It was emphasized that women's only important roles could be as wives, daughters, or widows. This shows that even in their families, women were seen as lesser than men with less rights M.P.
  • Sons in the 1500's had power over their mothers and could make them do anything they wanted and if they didn't then the sons could get them in trouble with the law. For example, if a son asks his mother to buy something for him and she doesn't then she can be jailed. The only way that women could have power over themselves was if their husband died. This shows how in families, women didn't even have control over their own lives. M.P.
  • The only thing that women had control over was the household when their husband and son(s) were gone and even then, they didn't have any ownership over the house. In marriage, if women refuse to marry the man chosen for them then they were beat until they agreed to marry. This proves how women were not treated fairly in families and how women were seen as less. M.P.
