In this part of the story Liesel and her family are on there way to the Huberman's. This also the part where her brother dies.
Meeting with the Metor/Helper
Pg.24 "When the dragging was done, the mother and the girl stood and breathed. There was somthing black and rectangular lodged in the snow. Only the girl saw it. she bent down and picked it up and held it firmly in her fingers." In this part of the story they bury her brother. this is also the part where she gets her first chance to steal a book.
Crossing the Threshold
Pg.28 "The fact was this: Liesel would not get out of the car." In this part of the story Liesel is refusing to get out of the car she is also refusing to enter her new home, and her new world.
Tests and Enemies
Pg.28 "It took nearly fifteen minutes to coax her from the car. It was the tall man who did it." In this part of the story Liesel meets Hans Huberman her helper.
Pg.28 "Eventually, Liesel Meminger walked gingerly inside." This is the part where Liesel finally enters her new world and starts her adventure.
Pg.64 "Then he read the title, with concentration, aloud: 'The Grave Digger's Handbook." This is the part where Hans starts to teach her how to read. this is also the part where she finally starts to trust the Huberman's.
