Storyboard Text

  • I am aware that this may anger you, but it's the African Americans 15th amendment right to vote. First, the 13th amendment abolished the slave practice, and the 14th amendment said that if they were born in the US they can vote. We have no chocice.
  • Listen, boy I will provide you with a house, tools, seeds, and animals if you give me a share of the crops. Deal?
  • I don't really have much of a choice but to work for him again. There are too many issues on the rise to take risks.
  • No more reconstruction! No more reconstruction!
  • Oh my! I've heard of these groups going against reconstruction! I remember this one is called the "KKK". Oh no, the reconstruction plans from Johnson, and Lincoln are failing!
  • Amendments 13,14, and 15 were are all small stepping stones towards more equality for all. This resulted in angry outbreaks and even violent attacks on African Americans. African Americans did not live in peace with white folks for a long time.
  • We are willing to kill, women and children alike! Let us end the Republican party, and help the plantation owners. No African Americans needed here!
  • The Enforcement Act of 1870 and 1871 allows me to supervise this area because your clan is active here!
  • African Americans could not get many jobs during this time as most white folks didn't even consider them people let alone someone they would pay. People with land offered African Americans a share of their land so they would get crops in return. This was a lot like slavery before.
  • I'm not surprised that with the lack of unity and series of bank failures the reconstruction failed. The supreme court is undoing social changes! What are we supposed to do now?!
  • To oppose the idea of reconstruction, groups like the KKK formed. They protested and used extreme violence to get what they wanted. Like many others, they hated people of color, too. Also, reconstruction plans made by Lincoln, Johnson, and the Republicans were all failing due to disagreements.
  • Wow, the reconstruction is at its end, and the troops withdrew from our lands. The Republican leaders agreed to accept Rutherford Hayes as our president after a few agreements. Thank God amendments 13,14, and 15 are still part of the constitution!!
  • The KKK was one of the most well-known groups in the south. Their goal was to get rid of the Republican party, and to aid plantation owners. The KKK was willing to kill anyone in their way to reach their goal. However, Congress made amendments and acts to combat these groups. Federal troops were stationed at the site where there was a group activity.
  • Eventually, reconstruction failed because of the panic of 1873 which was a series of bank failures, and the lack of unity in the Republican government. The supreme court started to undo social and political changes and reconstruction period had ended.
  • While Samuel J. Tilden won the popular vote he did not win in the electoral section. Southern Democrats said that if troops withdrew from the south they would accept Rutherford Hayes as president. WIth the agreements set in place, the Republican party agreed, and Hayes was now president. With this election, the reconstruction time period has ended.
