  • What did you learn?
  • Hey bro, I learned something new today.
  • I learned that atoms make up the universe!
  • That's cool and all, but what's an atom?
  • They're small particles that are made of Protons, Neutrons, and Electrons
  • Also but how do you know how many Protons, Neutrons, and Electrons there are in an atom?
  • Each element is on the Periodic Table.
  • Anything else   on it?
  • How do I tell which one is which?
  • Yes. Each element is assigned with an atomic number, which is the number of protons and electrons, an atomic mass, the number of protons and neutrons combined, and also the element's symbol.
  • The Atomic Number is above the element and the Atomic Mass is under the symbol. The element is the word and the symbol is the letter(s)
  •         You would           subtract the        atomic mass by the      atomic number      (AMU-AN).
  • What about neutrons? How would I know the amount of neutrons by itself?
