Storyboard Text

  • Hey, Jimmy, what did your grandpa tell you about bears?
  • Will he be okay?
  • Yeah, he'll be fine, Erin.  Rob, you need to back away slowly, so the bear won't hear you.  Don't make a sound.  Also, be aware of your surroundings.
  • Look out, Rob!
  • Ahhhhh!
  • Don't panic!  Make yourself look as big as possible, like this.  Yell, "Hello, Mr. Bear!"  DO NOT PLAY DEAD!
  • ROB!!!  Are you okay?
  • Of course it does.  I told you NOT to play dead.
  • My ankle hurts.
  • Jimmy has begun to get worried about Rob, but he doesn't show it, for the bear might sense his fear.  He realized that he should tell Rob what his grandfather told him, even though Rob had made a smart remark about it earlier.
  • He is right, Rob.
  • I'll bring you to grandpa's cabin a few miles away.  You really should have listened to me earlier.  It would have prevented your ankle injury.
  • Rob backed away from the bear slowly and quietly, just like Jimmy said to.  Rob tripped over a rock, though.  The bear heard Rob scream and charged Rob.
  • You did well, Jimmy.  You bandaged that well.
  • Rob played dead, although Jimmy told him not to earlier in the morning.  Luckily, Jimmy had brought some bear spray (high strength pepper spray) to ward off the bear.  He sprayed the bear with the powder-looking spray.   The bear went away, but he scraped Rob's ankle with his claws before he left.  Rob's injury was extremely painful with a high chance of being fatal.
  • I was just starting to get fond of that kid.
  • The children walked a little ways before Jimmy bandaged Rob's leg (he always carried first aid supplies in his backpack).  Jimmy worked like he never had before.  His fingers flew with the leg wrap, because his grandpa once said, "Bears are very intelligent creatures.  You never know when they'll come back."
  • Yeah, I guess so.  Just fix my ankle.
  • They'll be back (is what it says)
  • On their way to grandpa's cabin, Jimmy told everyone what to do if they see another bear.  Erin was very sure that she would not let any bear near her friends.  When they got to the cabin (with        no bear attacks), grandpa was waiting patiently for them.  He knew how to fix an ankle.
  • Jimmy's grandpa tried to bandage Rob's leg as best he could.  Despite grandpa's efforts, Rob passed away during the night.
