Frederick Henry Royce was born in 1863 in Alwalton, Huntingdonshire, near Peterborough. At the age of 14, an aunt arranged for him to become apprentice to the Great Northern Railway Company’s locomotive works in Peterborough. He stayed there for three years, where he gained an enthusiasm for engineering.
The road of trials
Royce did not back down from his dreams, at the same time he also attended evening classes organised by the City and Guilds Institute. In 1882 he became a tester with the London Electric Light and Power Company, installing electric arc and incandescent street lighting, trying to persue his dreams of being an amazing engineer.
In 1884 Royce met Charles Rolls, Rolls and Royce at the Midland Hotel, Manchester, on 4 May 1904. Rolls was a car designer for royce and together they founded the engineering company Rolls-Royce
The Ultimate Boon
After many tries and experimenting with trial and error they still did not give up. And they never did and in 1904 they made their first car and revolutionized the European engineering industry.
Royce and Rolls had a close relationship, they became best friends besides business partners
