  • a common myth with lightning is that if its not raining theres no chance of it striking.
  • Lightning is a discharge of static electicity, built up largely by friction between air molecules.
  • it also helps if the terrain is dry, this is why dry thunderstorms are common in western united states
  • a reason a thunderstorm can be called dry is because the humidity below, rain will fall but will evaporate before it hits the ground
  • and remember a house isnt always the safest in the event of a dry thunderstorm.
  • to stay completely safe from lightning, stay away from things metal, electronic, or water.
