John and David meet at the predetermined airfield in Anchorage, Alaska. They are going to be traveling to meet their family's in Nome. The pilot opens the door and gensters for them to enter. The two men, both in their 30's, climb into the plane and toss their bags to the back. They are strangers as of now.
The plane took off an had been flying for about 45 minutes when all of a sudden it started moving in capricious motions. Then there was a loud boom and black smoke started flowing from the left wing.
The plane tilted left and started losing altitude. "Hold on!", the pilot yelled. He tried to pull up, but it was useless. The fall the turned into a nose dive. The men watched the mountain get closer and closer, then braced for impact.
I'm so glad you made it home alright!
The plane hits the ground with a thud and the front half burst into flames. John and David climb out the back window, both with minor injuries. The pilot had died on impact, and the plane was burning fast. The men new that one of them had to climb back in and retrieve the survival bag.
David decided to climb back in through the window and grab the survival bag. When he came back out, they opened the bag to see what they could use. David grabbed a flare gun, a compass, and a map. John grabbed bear repellent, a knife, canned food, and matches. David looked at the map and compass and decided they should walk south, for the nearest town was that way.
We should go south.
The pair had been walking for almost 4 hours, when they approached a small town. They walked up the street and stopped at a gas station. The clerk told them that there was a hospital and police station down the road, so they went. They were taken care of at the hospital, then told the police of their planes position and the death of their pilot. 2 days later, the men are airlifted to Nome where they finally meet up with their family's.
