  • Ashyln and Hayden Day at the Beach
  • Ouch! The sand is too hot!
  • That's because the heat from the sand is being transferred to your feet. This is called conduction.
  • A sea breeze passes by...
  • Ahhh! The cold sea breeze ruined my hair!!!
  • This is beacuase of convection.
  • Radiation is the transfer of heat from the sun. The sun heats up the water and the land. Convection is when warm air rises and cold air sinks. The movement is always from warm to cold. This is why oceans have a breeze.
  • The sea breeze is cool during the day because the land heats up faster than the water. The direction of the wind goes from the water to the land. This is known as sea breeze. During the night, the water becomes warmer than the land so the wind changes direction and goes from the land to water. This is known as land breeze.
  • Jet Streams
  • But how do I know the direction of the wind?
  • W
  • N
  • S
  • E
  • The Earth's rotation deflecting winds is also known as the Coriolis effect.
