Frederick Douglass was born in 1818 on February 20th to Harriet Bailey, and his father was never confirmed, but rumored to be one of his masters.
He hardly ever even knew his mom, they were separated by them being moved into different plantations, so he was alone most of his life.
He was moved to many different plantations and masters, one of which he was at first taught how to read and then wasn't because of another master of his, so he would learn to read on his own.
Because of his growing intelligence and ability to defy his masters he was moved to the cruel Mr. Covey, who was known for abusing the slave so much they would finally listen to masters.
