CONFLICT: the Loisels' were invited to a fancy ball, though Mme. Loisel was humiliated since she had nothing extravagant to wear, nor any jewellery.
RISING ACTION: as a solution, her husband gave her 400 francs to buy a new dress, and her friend, Mme. Forestier, lend her a necklace.
CLIMAX: after having a wonderful time at the ball, the Loisels' came home, only to realize that the necklace was missing.
Falling Action: M. Loisel bought 36,000 franc necklace to replace the lost one; the Loisels' spent 10 years working to repay it.
RESOLUTION: after bumping into each other, Mme. Forestier tells Mme. Loisel that the necklace she lend to her was not made of real diamond, it was only paste and costed 400 francs.
