  • Elie and his family are first introduced in the story in Sighet, Transylvania. They live in a small town and they are Jewish. Early in the story Elie's main goal was to invest more of his time in to religion and get to know it better. He found a man named Moishe the Beadle who taught Elie many things he wanted to know.
  • Climax
  • Men Here!
  • Moishe the Beadle and all foreign Jews were called to be deported. Elie and his family knew this was an effect of World War 2 but didn't think much of it. Soon enough Moishe escapes and try's to warn them of what to expect. No one believes him and everyone treats him as he is crazy. More and more people in the town question what is really going on in the war.
  • Falling Action
  • Soon enough German soldiers enter Sighet and ghettos are formed for the Jews. Elie's father is informed they will be deported and warns everyone in the ghetto to get ready. They are sent in caddle cars and taken somewhere, they have no clue where they are going.
  • Resolution
  • First Elie and his father are separated from His mother and sister. They are in Aushwitz and soon sent to a new camp called Buna. Here is Elie's first confrontation with his religion where he questions his faith. He sees a child being hung and asks, why is God not helping us?
  • Elie is forced to move from Buna because the Red army is approaching. They run for about fifty miles with no stops  and they are out of energy. Him and his father keep each other from falling asleep in order to stay alive.  They are forced into a caddle car and when they arrive to Buchewald only 12 are alive.
  • Elie's father dies, in Buchenwald, Elie could not do anything except sit and watch his father die. Elie officially looses faith in God because of this he questions his humanity. He soon survives and they Red army saves the Jews in Buchenwald. He still to this day sees the corpses in himself when looking into a mirror.
