Acid rain has a significant effect on our environment. There are both natural and human activities that have caused acid rain. The normal pH for rain water is 5.5-6. Acid rain changes this to a pH level of 3.Today i will be talking about acid rain and what we can do to stop it.
One way acid rain can be made is when factories burn fossil fuels. When they do this they release Nitric oxide and carbon dioxide. These are all released into the atmosphere.
Another way acid rain can be formed is when car emissions release Sulfur Dioxide and nitrogen oxide. This happens as a result of combustion in a car engine with the petrol.
A natural way of acid rain coming to be is from volcanoes when they erupt or release their gasses. When this happens they release a lot of sulphur Dioxide into the atmospere which changes the pH of the rain water.
all of these chemicals mix in the atmosphere with the water already there to make Sulphuric acid, nitric acid carbonic acid. These chemichals change the pH of the rain water which then rains down. When this happens it affects tthe environment in a negative way. plants for example, when the pH of their soil changes they often die off because plants need a specific soil pH level and the acid rain changes that, so they would die
Although Acid Rain is a problem, we can still solve it. One way is too conserve energy. Because a lot of the chemicals i have talked about come from factories and energy production, if we conserve our power, it would help out. This can be done just by turning off lights when not using them or other electrical equipment. Another way is too minimize driving. Because cars create a lot of pollutants, if we stop driving as much or carpool more it would help a lot more.
