Storyboard Text

  • Did you check the pressure of your air tank before we dive?
  • No. Why would that matter?
  • Marg is about to go scuba diving on her vacation to Bora Bora.
  • Well ya see Marg, there is this thing called Dalton's Law.
  • What's thats?
  • Dalton's Law: P total = P1 + P2 + P3
  • Dalton was born September 6, 1776 in England. He created the law in 1803. He served as the president of the Manchester Literary and Philosophical society. This organization was the first to give him access to a lab which led to the creation of Dalton's Law.
  • Dalton's law states that the total pressure of a gas mixture is equal to the sum of the partial pressures of its components.
  • Oh I understand!
  • We must use Dalton's law before diving to make sure our oxygen tanks have the correct amount of O2. Oxygen can be toxic when the partial pressure is breathed above 1.6 atm.
  • Dalton's interest in atmospheric pressures led him to an examination of gases.
  • Marg and the scuba instructor went into the water to scuba dive after checking the total pressure, and making sure it was safe.
  • Dalton's Law can be used in many different situations and allows people to find the sum of the partial products.
  • Good thing we had Dalton's Law! If not the oxygen would've become toxic!
  • Dalton's Law has been around for years! Dalton was a scientist who made many contributions and discoveries! These discovers allow us to be safe when Scuba Diving!
