After the revolution America fell into economic depression
Shays Rebellion- 1786 By: Holly E. 11/5/18 2nd
This effected many farmers and caused them to have no way of repaying dept.
I don't know what to tell you sir, as you can plainly see its hard to get by! Especially with all these Taxes!
This was an even worse issue in the Massachusetts due to they raised Taxes , and if a farmer couldn't pay they were threatened to take land or sent to jail
In 1786, Daniel Shays, a former Patriot soldier, organized a rebellion with a large mass of participants. They gathered near a courthouse and prevented the state from taking farms from farmers who could not pay their taxes.
No More Taxes! No More Jail Time!
The government of Massachusetts sent the militia to drive the farmers away and to send them back to their farms.
Many Americans saw Shays' Rebellion as a sign that the Articles of Confederation did not work as an effective constitution for the United States of American.
