- When Sulla died, Pompey and Crassus became Consuls. Crassus eager for power enlisted Julius Caesar. With this bond, these 3 men gained more and more power over the years

- Caesars ambition grew and grew, until Casar an d his armies crossed the Rubicon River. Caesar won the civil war and became dictator for life- the Roman Empire had begun
- His reign was short lived; On march 15, 44 B.C. AS many as 60 senaters pulled daggers and killed him. This would mark the end of the Roman republic and the start of the Roman empire.
- After the death of Caesar Rome entered a state of prosperity called Pax Romana
- When Pax Romana ended, Rome started a downward spiral. Diocletian tried to stop it by splitting Rome into eastern and western Rome
