God told Jonah: "Go to the Great City of Nineveh and preach against its actions."
I don't want to! The people of Nineveh are sinners; they do not deserve to live! I know! I'll try and hide from God!
I know! If I pay this merchant, I'm sure he'll let me sail to Tarshish with him!
Sure! You can stay down below deck. Now then, hand over the money.
Yep! I'll definitely be able to run away from God now!
Chop Chop! Get on now!
That night, there was a terrible storm; the crew-mates tied everything down, but still, the boat rocked like crazy. They started to pray to their Gods made out of Wood, Silver, Gold, and Bronze.
Oh Gods of the Sun, Wind, and Water, stop the rain please!
Guys! It's all my fault! I ran away from God, and now he is angry on me! Throw me overboard, and the storm will stop!
The storm immediately stopped, but as soon a Jonah hit the water, an enormous fish swallowed him whole! He stayed in the fish's belly for 3 days and 3 nights, praying for God's mercy, before it spit him out on land.
When the Ninevites heard what God was going to do, they immediately repented, fasted, and mourned, so that they may be forgiven by God. God took pity on them, and did not destroy the city of Nineveh.
