-5x -12 =23
Today, I will be teaching you on how to solve a two-step equation. Our equation is -5x -12 =23. In word form, this would be negative five multiplied by a number, decreased by twelve, equals twenty-three.
-5x -12 =23 +12 +12
After writing the equation down, you have to use the addition property of equality. For example, in this case, because it says to subtract 12, you have to add 12 to subtract 12, canceling it out, and you have to add 12 to 23.
USE A LINE TO SHOW DIVISION
-5x = 35 -------- -5 -5
Now the equation is -5x = 35. To find what x represents, you have to use the division property of equality. This time, you would do -5x/-5 and 23/-5.
x = -7
After dividing, you get x = -7
Did you get how to do this? Try another problem on your own to 'sea'.
I hope I was able to help you! Good luck!
