Storyboard Text

  •           At the basketball court
  • I'm so hungry!!! I've been playing ball for hours!!!
  • At the restaurant
  • OM NOM NOM!!!...  I could eat 50 more!
  • Down the esophagus, to the stomach
  • Esophagus
  • The body is hungry, it is telling the brain that it needs fuel, or food.
  • In the stomach
  • The food enters the body from the mouth, and teeth and saliva help break it down. Food usually stays in the mouth for about 10 seconds.
  • In the intestines
  • The broken food particles move down through the esophagus, by a squeezing motion called peristalsis. The food then ends up in the stomach. Food usually stays in he esophagus for a few seconds.
  • In the bathroom
  • Digestive juices from the gallbladder, pancreas, and liver help break down the different types of food. Food usually stays in the stomach for about 2 hours. Food starts to break down into chyme here.
  • The liver and gallbladder
  • The pancreas and stomach
  • After being in the stomach, food moves on to the small intestine. Food stays in there for about 8-12 hours. The small intestine has small finger like things called villi, which grab nutrients and transport them into the bloodstream. After that, the even more digested chyme passes through the appendix and into the large intestine, where the water is absorbed and solid waste is left. Food is in here for 6 - 8 hours.
  • Large Intestine
  • Appendix
  • Small Intestine
  • The food is then passed on to the rectum or the anus. The food will exit the body from here. The entire digestive process takes about 1 - 1.5 days.
  • Rectum and anus
