We are the observers, who are always 2 woman.
I'm the Model aged 24-29, always white and wear informal clothes, but not dressed the same.
I pretent to be either ill or drunk and see if someone will come and help me.
we are the 4 victims , 3 white and 1 black and we either have a black cane or a bottle in a plastic bag.
Series of emergencies were staged 103 times on New York 8th avenue Independent subway . A+D trains as they ad 7 1/2 mins without stopping. It took part on weekdays from 11am to 3pm from 15th April 1968 to 26 June 1968. 4 teams of students, victims ( all wearing Eisenhower jackets, old jeans + no tie. Model aged 24-29, always white, wearing informal clothes, but notdressed the same.
My job is to help the victim 70 seconds or 150 seconds after he falls down, if i get the chance to.
Victims would collapse 70 seconds into the trip. The victim would remain lying on the floor , looking up at the ceiling. This was staged 103 times with 6-8 trails a day . Students would change trains to be able to carry out the experiment.
we have a few jobs to do as observers: Noted race, sex and location of every passenger in the critical area and passengers in the adjacent area + length of time taken before help from the first person. + the total of people in the carriage + total that helped.
All 4 victims were male , 3 white 1 black. 38 trails were drunk victims and 65 trails were ill. They alternated between drunk and ill. Victims didn't like playing the drunk , hence the in balance in trails.
