  • Causes of the War
  • The king of persia wants you guys to provide greek earth and water for us, send a gift if you agree to do so.
  • Provide greek earth and water for yourselves we won't do it for you!

  • Battle of Themopylae
  • Those troops back there you can leave, I will fight with my 300 spartans and the troops up here.
  • The Athenians helped the Ionians to fight the Persians. After the 1st war the Athenians left the Ionians before the official war with the Persians leaving them to fight all alone. They sadly lost and Persia took over them. The king of Persia sent a messenger to tell the Athenians to provide the king Greeks earth and water, The Greeks had to give a gift which was a sign of approval they did not give a gift, which leaded them to a war.
  • The Battle of Salamis
  • The Athenians needed help to fight off the Persians so they sent a runner named Phidippides to Sparta. When Phidippides arrived at Sparta he noticed there was a religious festival, the Spartans said they could not leave Sparta until the next full moon. He noticed that the Persians were coming and warned the Athenians. The Athenians came up with a way to beat the Persians, they Surrounded them from the left and the right. The Persians soon headed of to their ships. They suprisingly won with few soldiers!

  • I ordered you soldiers to go to Greece and attack the Greeks again at spring!
  • Leonidas knew that he could only delay the Persians. To keep his army from being destroyed, he ordered most of his troops to escape. With a much smaller army, including 300 Spartans, he prepared to fight. The Spartans try to hall the Persians off but the 300 Spartans died.
  • Effects of the War
  • We should create a league where we liberate eastern greek city states! We should call it the delian league!
  • A Athenian navy leader tricked Persia into fighting in a narrow water way. When the Persian ships came the Greeks retreated their ships to draw the Persians farther into the channel. Greece's ships had wooden rams at the front of their boat and the Persian's ships had hulls on their boats. The Greeks rammed their boats into the Persian boats. They crushed the Persians hulls and sent 300 of the ships at the bottom of the sea.
  • Xerxes left the rest of his army in Greece with orders to attack again in the spring. When spring arrived, the Persians approached Athens once more. The decisive battle took place outside the town of Plataea in 479 B.c.e,Led by the Spartans of 80,000 Greek troops that destroyed the Persians. The Greeks independence kept Persia from conquering all of Europe. The Greeks paid a high price for their victory!
  • After the long war the Persians soon retreated to Asia.The kings army remained in Greece. It was finally driven from the country after the battle of Plataea, it was defeated by a combined force of Spartans, Teagens, and Athenians. The Persian navy was defeated at Mycale. Soon after the Persians lost Athenians created the Athenian league also called the Delian league. The Delian league was an alliance of Greek city states led by Athens to liberate eastern Greek city states from Persian rule  as a Defence to possible revenge from Persia.
