Storyboard Text

  • The amazing apple
  • Jonas is superbly selected
  • The Magical memory
  • (green is meant to be black and apple is meant to be smaller and person is meant to be bigger) (midshot)  "the apple had changed. Just for a instant. It had changed in mid-air,"(pg 39). This is a big event in Jonas's journey through the novel as this is the first time Jonas "sees beyond". Which is one of the main ideas in the novel.
  • Ruthless release
  • (face is meant to fit in circle and meant to have hair and ears and nose) (Close up)"But then he looked out across the crowd, the sea of faces, the thing that had happened with the apple. They changed"( pg 86). This is a major event in the novel as Jonas realizes that what he saw in the apple and in the faces he saw red tone in could be "The capacity to see beyond".
  •  Terror above the trees
  • (Jonas is meant to be on sled)(long shot) "Then the sledge, with Jonas himself upon it, began to move through the snowfall,"(pg 108) This is a very important part in Jonas's journey as this is when he learns that they changed the  community with climate control and flattened out the land and changed the colours to just black and white.
  • The last sledge ride
  • (extreme close up with tip of needle and eyes and forehead in image) "He pushed the plunger very slowly, injecting the liquid into the scalp vein until it was empty."(pg 187). This is when Jonas learns what release is.  This is a major event because he realizes that the people in the community don't understand what happens when you get released and it is shown that Jonas's father doesn't care about what he is doing to the baby because he doesn't know what is happening.
  • "Jonas sped to the nearest tree or bush, dropped to the ground, and made himself and Gabriel cold."(pg 212) This is a important event in the novel as this is when Jonas leaves the community. The planes are searching for him because if he leaves the community all of the memories will be released to to everyone and then the community will go into chaos.
  • (mid shot) "Downwards, downwards, faster and faster.  Suddenly he was aware with certainty and joy that below, ahead, they were waiting for him"(pg 224) This is at the ending of the book when Jonas is going own the snow hill on a sled leaving the community for good which is why it is a major event.
