Some ways that the average person can conserve energy is simply by shutting off the water when they are done using it, turning off lights in rooms that are not occupied, or taking quicker showers. Another way to conserve energy at home would be to not burn coal-related fuels to heat your house. You instead can use solar energy, like using a dish-engine system where the mirrors reflect light that is then transferred to a heat engine, and can later be used to heat your house.
Another way to conserve energy and reduce pollution would be to ride your bike as much as possible or try to buy cars with the least amount of carbon dioxide release. Try an electric car or one that doesn't use a carbon-fueled source.
Around 14 billion pounds of trash is dumped in the world's ocean every year, most of it being plastic. Items you can avoid using include plastic straws, plastic water bottles, styrofoam, or anything else that is not biodegradable. More importantly, recycle and throw your trash away instead of littering.
