Storyboard Text

  • After the first Olympics, they added many more sports/games like longer footraces and discus.
  • My name is Coroebus. I won the first ever Olympics in Olympia, Greece. The only race was a 192 meter footrace called a stade.
  • I am the all mighty Zeus. The ancient Olympians held a religious festival for me every four years from August 6 - September 19 called the Olympics.
  • As the Romans took over Greece, A Roman Emperor named "Theodosius I" banned all 'pagan' festivals.
  • He founded the Olympics in 1894. In two years would be the first ever modern Olympics held in Greece.
  • My name is Baron Pierre de Coubertin. I loved Greece and the Olympians, so in the 1800's I sailed down to Greece to visit.
  • In 1892, Baron Pierre de Coubertin proposed the idea of doing another Olympics at a meeting with the Union of sports athletics in Paris. 2 years later, they proposed the idea into what we have now.
  • The first Olympics were held in 1896 in Athens, Greece.  There were 280 all male participants from 13 nations.
  • This shows how the Olympics relocated from Greece to all over the world.
  • After about 28 years, in 1924 they held the Olympics in Paris with 44 nations that participated.
  • In just 6 Olympic games, 31 more countries from around the world joined in. That's crazy!
