chapter 3- Scout beats up Walter so Jem invites him over for lunch

Introduces all of the characters, all the neighbors and Atticus and his kids. The book takes place in Maycomb, Alabama during the Great Depression.
chapter 9- Atticus defends a "nigger"
Dill left Maycomb to go to Meridian. Scout gets ready for his first day of school and his new teacher Miss Caroline found out that you cant give money to a Cunningham because they might not pay back.
chapter 10- its a sin to kill a mocking bird
Scout beats up Walter Cunningham for getting him in trouble. Jem stops Scout and he invites Walter to come home for lunch with them.
chapter 11- Jem has to read to Mrs.Dubose for punishment
Scout wants to fight Cecil Jacobs because he said that Atticus defends "niggers"
“Mockingbirds don't do one thing but make music for us to enjoy . . . but sing their hearts out for us. That's why it's a sin to kill a mockingbird.”
As punishment, Atticus makes Jem go and read to Mrs. Dubose each afternoon. Scout goes with him. ... She leaves Jem a single white camellia flower. Jem is horrified, but Atticus explains that Mrs. Dubose was addicted to morphine and the reading sessions helped her kick the habit before she died.
